Calvin Laing

Head of Data and Due Diligence

Calvin is Head of Data and Due Diligence at TDi, based in the UK. He is a sustainable development professional with over 15 years of experience leading human rights, social, and environmental initiatives across diverse global contexts.

Calvin has held senior leadership positions in organisations focused on natural resource governance, artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM), and oil and gas sector social and environmental performance. He previously led a programme to promote responsible artisanal and small-scale gold production at The Impact Facility, overseeing investment-led ESG improvements at ASM sites. Before that, he served as Executive Director at Stakeholder Democracy Network, leading a research and policy programme to create data-driven solutions to improve the social and environmental performance of the oil and gas industry in Nigeria. It was in this role where Calvin developed a particular appreciation of the power of data to drive better decision making and impact – particularly when bringing together stakeholders that are often at odds with each other.

With a background in environmental science and a master’s degree in Environment and Development from King’s College London, Calvin brings a strategic, analytical approach to building effective due diligence solutions that balance business needs with sustainability imperatives.
